Practical demonstration on the playground / outside / in the classroom:
The teacher throws a ball to a learner. Ask the learner to call out anyone’s name to catch the ball. (Repeat this activity a few times).
Energy is transferred from the thrower to make the ball move to the catcher.
Ask a learner to roll his / her pen from the desk. (As the pen falls to the floor, the potential energy is changed into kinetic energy).
Stretch an elastic band (The stretched elastic band has potential energy. It changes to kinetic energy when the elastic band is released and moves through the air).
Teacher Input 3
Ask the children if they had ever sailed down a slide.
Tell two learners to run to the front of the class and back to their seats.
Present an overview of kinetic energy by using Presentation 3: Kinetic Energy.
Learner Activity 3
Learners receive and read the Fact Sheet about Kinetic Energy.
Complete Worksheet C.
Teacher to use Worksheet C: Memorandum to mark the learners’ work.
