- invertebrates: animals have bones and hard outer skins / shells, e.g. worms; crabs; millipedes; insects; spiders; scorpions; snails; shrimps; jellyfish; star fish; octopus; etc.
- vertebrates: animals have bones, e.g.
- fish – trout; white shark; lionfish; swordfish; herring; pike; etc.
- reptiles- snake; crocodiles; lizards; alligators; turtles; etc.
- birds - ostrich; flamingo; cardinal; bald eagle; etc.
- mammals - human; elephant; rat; dogs; giraffe; panda; dolphins; etc.

- Do an oral introduction where learners stand in front of the classroom and the other learners must guess which animals is represented by listening to the following clues of animals:
- sound [e.g. howl; bark; hiss; trumpeting; bark; snort; roar; chirp; etc.].
- size [small; big; gigantic; tiny; huge; long; short; etc.].
- weight [light; heavy].
- body covering [hair; feathers; fur; pelt; hide; skin; shell; scales].
- limbs.
- The teacher can search for animal body coverings [activities; video/ worksheets].
- Complete answers on a classification table on the board.
Learner Activity 7
- Before handing out Worksheet C, ask the learners if they know the meaning of the word vegetarian (someone who does not eat meat). The learners can also be asked to specify what they prefer to eat / like to eat/ dislike/ etc.
- Remind remind the learners that there are also animals who prefer to eat certain plants and or animals as it had been explained in the PowerPoint presentation.
- Hand out Worksheet C for learners to complete.

- Remind the learners that earth animals are categorised according to the food that they eat.
- Show Video Clip 5 (7,18 minutes). This is a fun science lesson for children on vertebrates and invertebrates.
