Term 4 Topic 5 Vehicles used on the Moon

• Ask the learners to name a few types of vehicles.
• Find out whether the learners know anything about the first person who landed on the Moon.

• Greet the learners.
• Ask them the following questions:
  • What do we call a person who is trained to travel in a spacecraft? [Astronaut – American] or [Cosmonaut – Russian].
  • What clothes do astronauts wear in space? [Spacesuits]

• Present an overview of spacesuits by using Presentation 1:

• A short discussion about spacesuits follows after the presentation.
• Complete Worksheet A.
• Teacher to use WORKSHEET A: Memorandum to mark the learners’ work.

• Divide the class into groups of 4-6 learners.
• Give each group a picture of a spacesuit and a spacecraft as well as a plastic toy vehicle.
• Let them gather information about it by discussing it in their group.

• The group leader must instruct members to come up with different ideas about the:
  • spacesuit [material; colour; emblem; attachments; head gear; etc.].
  • spacecraft [size; colour; wheels; roof; weight; cost to manufacture; design; etc.].
  • plastic toy vehicle [colour; size; wheels; doors; windows; etc.].
• Each group gets an opportunity to report back.
