Introduction
- Show the learners a damaged electrical cord.
- Ask them to describe it.
- Let the learners figure out whether it is safe or dangerous to use a damaged electrical cord.
- Inform the learners that they will watch a video clip about insulators, but their knowledge of conductors will also be tested and reinforced.
Teacher Input 6
- Show Video Clip 5: Slideshow about conductors and insulators.
- Only show slides 1- 18. (slides 19 – 35 is about circuits in Topic 1).
- The list with the pages and content will help the teacher to pause, ask questions, allow the learners to debate/ discuss/ give hypothesis, etc.
Slide numbers | Content |
1 - 18 | Insulators |
19 - 23 | resistors expounding on types of energy |
- Pause the video clip to:
- question the learners
- point out important facts
- identify examples
Learner Activity 5
- Learners respond to the teacher’s questions (discussion / debate / etc.)
Teacher Input 7
- Inform the learners that they should now have a clear understanding of conductors and insulators.
- Let the learners identify the differences between conductors and insulators before they watch Video Clip 6: The differences between conductors and insulators.(8:34 min.).
- Present an overview of insulators and reinforcing conductors by using Presentation 6: Learning about insulators and reinforcing Conductors.
Learner Activity 6
- Allow each group to discuss the “survivor” television programmes briefly.
- They must give examples of the food, clothing, hunting, water, etc.
- Elaborate on the dangers and protection needed.
Teacher Input 8
- Present an overview of insulators by using Presentation 7: Insulators.
Learner Activity 7
- Learners complete Worksheet C (based on presentations 6 and 7).
- Teacher to use WORKSHEET C: Memorandum to mark the learners’ work.
Revision Activity 2
- Learners complete QUIZ 3.
- Teacher to use QUIZ 3: Memorandum to mark the learners’ work
