Introduction
- Safety precautions should be taken when using electricity.
- After completing this section the learners will :
- realise why it is so important to respect electricity.
- know that electrical appliances that are not being used, should be switched off.
- be aware that they must not work with wet hands when they handle electrical appliances.
- be able to apply the five important steps on someone who has suffered an electrical shock.
Teacher Input 4
- Greet the learners.
- Ask the learners how they felt when someone took their lunch / pen / cell phone / etc. without their permission.
- Ignite learners’ interest by starting with a debate in the next activity.
Learner Activity 4
- divide the learners into two groups.
- one group supports the idea that it is wrong to have illegal electricity connections.
- the other group support illegal electricity connections.
- groups can briefly discuss their topic for 5 minutes.
- each group gets the opportunity to voice their opinion and the other group can respond.

The teacher informs the learners that:
- it is dangerous to climb poles that support electrical wires [also mention that they must not climb into the trees on the school premises].
- they will be equipped with new knowledge that will help them to understand why they should not:
- fiddle with wall sockets.
- knot electrical leads or wires.

Learner Activity 5
- Open a plug and ask the learners to mention the three different colours.
- Ask them to do research work at home.
- One of the learners will be asked to report back on the function of each colour during the next Science & Technology period.
