Properties of Non-metals

• Non-metals are dull, can break easily (brittle).
• Non-metals are not necessarily shiny and are usually dull.
• Non-metals are brittle, meaning, when we band them with enough force they may bend or break.
• Non-metals are not conductors of electricity and they do not heat well. We refer to them as insulators.

• Show learners a piece of wood, glass, plastic, rubber, and chalk.
• Ask learners to look at the items and discuss whether they look/feel like metals.
