Arrangement of the elements on the Periodic table

• Greet the learners.
• Ask the learners what they understand about ‘classification’. Possible answers [naming, grouping the same kind, category, ranking, class, grade, kind, sort, type, variety, etc.].

• Show Video Clip 1: The NEW Periodic Table Song Lyrics (In Order). [2:44 min.].

• Inform the learners that they will be introduced to the Periodic Table of Elements which is a chemistry classification system.
• Mention that scientists and chemists need the Periodic Table as an essential tool, because the elements are placed in categories according to each one’s properties.
• Point out that every element has a specific name, symbol and atomic number.
• Ask the learners to jot down the following while they are watching the presentation:
  1. A few elements that are known to them.
  2. One element’s name, symbol and atomic number.
  3. The three main categories of the elements.

• Present an overview of the elements on the periodic table by using

Presentation 1:  Arrangements of elements on the Periodic Table.

• Possible answers of the three questions on which the learners had to report back:
  1. Calcium, Oxygen, Copper, Gold, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Chlorine, Tin, Silver, etc.
  2. Element’s name: Iron; Symbol: Fe; Atomic number: 26 [any other element].
  3. Metals, non-metals and semi-metals.
